Mewar University, an autonomous institution established by the Mewar Education Society (MES) in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, operates as a self-governing body. The university's formation was facilitated by the Government of Rajasthan in 2008 through an ordinance, later enacted as Act No. 4 of 2009 by the Rajasthan Assembly. Mewar University holds approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956, granting the authority to confer degrees under section 22(1) of the UGC Act, as indicated in the letter No.F.9-15/2009 (CPP-I) dated 30th March 2009. It is a recognized member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and holds accreditation from NAAC, along with approval under section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956.
