List of 30 Institutions for Institute of Eminence Status - University Grants Commission

20 Institution will  be awarded with status of ‘Institution of Eminence’.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development  has shortlisted the six institutions for the status of  ‘Institutions of Eminence (IoEs)’ including 3 from Public Institutions and 3 from Private Institutions. It was shortlisted by Empowered Expert Committee headed by former (CEC) N .Gopalaswami.

Public Institutions - IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IISC

Private Institutions - Manipal Academy of Higher Learning, BITS Pilani , Jio Institute , Reliance Foundation ( Greenfield)

The prominent committee of 4 members has been set up for the selection of 20 institution for granting the status of Institute of Eminence .The list of 20 highly reputable institutions has been suggested by Empowered Expert Committee to UGC.The report has been submitted to Ministry of Human Resource Development.

This scheme has been started by MHRD  with the strong motive to empower the higher educational institution to help them become world class teaching and research institutions The main objective of this schemes is to provide excellence of knowledge in higher education and to provide high quality world class education. The principle objective of this plan is to give great quality in advanced education and to give top notch world class training.

Benefits of IoE Status

It will guarantee total independence to the selected  institutions and facilitate  them to develop all the more quickly .Simultaneously they will get the greater chance to scale up their task with more aptitudes  and quality improvement so they become World Class Institutions in the sphere of education.

Under this scheme, each public institution selected as ‘Institute of Eminence’ will get financial aid up to Rs. 1000 Crore over the period of five years

The status will be given to 20 Institution only 10 from Public Institutions and 10 from Private Institutions. The UGC has recommended the list of 15 public and 15 private institutions on the basis of evident and authentic criteria for their selection process.As the primary motive of plans is to get ready institutions for worldwide positioning, no current institution which was not figured in any of the worldwide rank will be suggested for the IoE status. If any slot remains empty , thought will be given to ‘yet to be established (Greenfield)’proposals.

Public Institutions - The following are list of Institution recommended for the grant of IoE Status.

Jadavpur University and Anna University can be considered for the issue of I0E Status after the offcial discussion with the state government.

Private Institutions - The following are the list of Private Institution recommended for the status of IoE.

Private Institutions will be permitted for more autonomy as a Special Category Deeemed University but there will be no financial support given to them.The Greenfield Institutions would get 3 year period to establish the institutions and there after , EEC will ponder to give the IoE Status to them.

This scheme of IoE status has been taken with great of expectation that the  awarded institutions will come up in top 500 of the world positioning in 10 years and in top of the world positioning in the long run overtime. To accomplish the top world positioning , these foundations will be given by more noteworthy self-governance to concede outside understudies up to 30% of conceded understudies ,to select remote personnel up to 25% of workforce quality ; to offer online courses up to 20%of its projects; to go into scholarly coordinated effort with the best 500 on the planet positioning organizations without the authorization of UGC; free to fix and charge expenses from outside understudies without restrictions, flexibility obviously structure regarding number of credit hours and years taken to a degree ,complete adaptability in fixing educational program and syllabus among others.
