Applications are now open for the second batch at IIT Madras, Zanzibar, with an increased number of seats available. The Institute has decided to expand the seat capacity for its BS in Data Science and AI, as well as MTech in Data Science and AI programs, in response to the overwhelming interest from students in India and globally.

IIT Madras Zanzibar invites prospective students to apply for the academic year 2024-25. The BS program application deadline is April 15, 2024, and the screening test is scheduled for June 9, 2024, between 2 pm to 5 pm IST and 11:30 am to 2:30 pm East African Time. For the MTech program, the application deadline is March 15, 2024, and the screening test will take place on March 31, 2024, during the same time slots.

The admission process involves three stages. In the first stage, applications are evaluated not only for minimum educational qualifications but also for candidates' co-curricular and extra-curricular credentials, which hold a 10% weightage. The second stage consists of a screening test (IITMZST) assessing aptitude in various subjects, contributing 60% to the overall evaluation. Shortlisted candidates from stages 1 and 2 proceed to the third stage, an interview with a 30% weightage.

The BS program screening test covers English and Comprehension, Analytical Ability, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, with a maximum score of 60. Similarly, the MTech program screening test, with a maximum score of 60, assesses Technical Aptitude and General Aptitude. Successful candidates from the screening tests will advance to the interview stage.

Given the heightened enthusiasm from students worldwide, IIT Madras Zanzibar is contemplating further seat expansions and the addition of new test centers. The online screening tests will be conducted in 19 international centers across the African continent, the Middle East, and South Asia. The number of domestic centers has also increased to 19, aiming to provide students with more accessible testing options.
