Fostering Green Tech: IIT Madras and Thales Lead with CZC 4.0

IIT Madras and Thales advance eco-innovation through CZC 4.0. They also fund and mentor teams for impact.

Incubated by IIT Madras and powered by its innovation accelerator, Thales, the institution recently revealed the top six teams from the fourth cohort of the Carbon Zero Challenge (CZC 4.0). This nationwide event is designed to support climate change innovators and entrepreneurs who seek to build unique solutions for a sustainable future.

Sustainability Efforts Made by Thales

As a CSR and ESG participant, Thales has been helping CZC cultivate green technologies and enable innovators. Organized in partnership with Aquamap (a part of IIT Madras Centre for Water Management and Policy), the competition attracted more than 2,000 participants from 775 universities and 430 startups.

Ashish Saraf, Thales' VP and Country Director for India, stated, “We are excited to partner with IIT Madras on CZC. This initiative supports our vision of promoting sustainable and resource-efficient solutions to pressing environmental issues.

Recognizing Innovative Teams

Six of the 25 shortlisted teams were identified as finalists, and one team received special mention. The finalists will be awarded seed capital up to INR 10 lakhs and business incubation by Sustainability Mafia, a climate innovation hub.

Finalists and Innovations:

·         Gudlyf Mobility Pvt Ltd: Production of hydrogen storage cylinders using agricultural waste.

·         EESAN: Superior bio-methane options that are cleaner.

·         Electropulse Innovations: Generators of high voltage pulses for water treatment.

·         Thaal Chemy Innovations Pvt Ltd: The use of nanocellulose from agricultural residues for sustainable packaging.

·         ReWinT: Sustainable recycling of wind turbine blades.

·         Chrissron Biomass Solutions: Renewable biopolymer derived from plant sources.

Setting the Course for a Sustainable Future

CZC started with a mission to support and grow over 100 prototypes, of which 30 are operating startups, and 35 are developing towards launch. This highlights the avidity of theory-practice collaboration in achieving environmental needs and nurturing sustainable entrepreneurship.
