IIM
Ahmedabad to Introduce PhD Reservation Policy by 2025
IIM Ahmedabad to implement
reservations for SC, ST, OBC, and disabled candidates in PhD admissions
starting 2025, following a Gujarat High Court submission.
Starting in 2025, IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA)
will implement a reservation policy in its PhD admissions, marking the
institute's alignment with government guidelines. This decision follows a
submission made to the Gujarat High Court last year, where IIMA stated that it
would introduce seat reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other
Backward Classes, and disabled candidates.
The policy change comes in response to a public
interest litigation (PIL) filed by Anil Wagde, a member of the Global IIM Alumni Network, which called for
the implementation of reservation in IIMA’s
doctoral programmes. IIM Ahmedabad
was the only remaining IIM, out of
the 20 across the country, that had yet to adopt reservation in its PhD programmes.
Online applications for the 2025 intake opened on
September 19 and will be accepted until January 20. Wagde indicated that
further details on the implementation will be sought, including data on
applicants and shortlisted candidates.
Previously, IIMA had voluntarily agreed to introduce reservations but had not set a specific timeline until now.
