IIT Kharagpur Scholarships for UG and PG Students

IIT Kharagpur provides scholarships to deserving and meritorious students each year. These scholarships come in various forms, including college fee concessions and direct benefit transfers to the students' bank accounts.

List of Scholarships

1.      Institute Scholarships

Awarded from institute funds, these scholarships are based on merit-cum-means for eligible students of the four-year BTech(Hons), five-year dual degree, five-year BArch(Hons), five-year integrated MSc courses, and four-year BS program.

Eligibility:

All students admitted to the mentioned programs, except those belonging to SC and ST (who are eligible for post-matric scholarships from their respective state governments), are eligible for merit-cum-means (MCM) scholarships.

Awarded to no more than 25% of students admitted each year to Undergraduate and Dual Degree courses.

The value of these scholarships is determined by the Board of Governors.

MCM scholarship holders are exempt from paying institute tuition fees but are required to pay all other prescribed fees.

Scholarships are payable for all 12 months of the academic session, from July to June.

Scholarships for July are paid in full regardless of the reopening date after the Summer Vacation, provided the student registers on the prescribed date.

Students cannot hold more than one scholarship simultaneously. If eligible for another scholarship, they must choose one and communicate their choice to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

The initial award and annual renewal of scholarships require:

Meeting the merit criterion.

Meeting the means criterion.

No pending or taken disciplinary actions.

No punishment under examination malpractice or violation of the code of conduct.

Merit criterion for the award:

Fresh entrants must have at least 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced.

For renewals, the GPA in the two consecutive semesters of the preceding session must not be lower than 7.00.

Eligibility for MCM and other Institute Scholarships even if EAA is not completed.

Scholarships resume for students re-joining after temporary withdrawal on medical grounds or family calamity, subject to eligibility and approval.

2.      Endowment and Alumni-Funded Scholarships

Awarded through an endowment fund, these scholarships follow specific rules:

The term "best student" refers to the student who has secured the highest CGPA in the immediately preceding semester among all students of the same batch and meets other general conditions.

Additionally, on April 1, IIT Kharagpur announced several reforms in its UG programs for sessions starting in the academic year 2024-25. These reforms align with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020).
