IIT Madras Confers Degrees to 3,227 Students at 62nd Convocation

IIT Madras awards over 3,000 degrees, including 529 PhDs, during its 62nd convocation with Ajit Doval and Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam as chief guests.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) marked a significant milestone on July 11, 2025, as it hosted its 62nd convocation ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of over 3,000 students.

A total of 3,227 students were awarded degrees, while the grand total of degrees conferred — including joint and dual degrees — stood at 3,661. Notably, 529 students received PhDs, including 10 international joint PhDs in collaboration with institutions in countries like Australia, Singapore, France, and Germany.

The convocation was graced by Shri Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor, who inspired students with a powerful message about India's transformative journey and their role in shaping the nation’s future.

The event also welcomed Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Padma Vibhushan awardee and renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, as the Guest of Honour.

The convocation was led by Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IIT Madras’ Board of Governors, and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras.
