Supreme Court Intervenes on Seat Blocking Malpractice
In a significant move toward bringing
fairness to PG medical admissions, the Supreme Court of India has issued a
landmark ruling to curb seat blocking by private and deemed universities.
“Seat blocking reflects deeper systemic
flaws,” the bench said, adding that it distorts
merit and fairness.
The apex court has now mandated
pre-counselling fee disclosures and directed the implementation of a nationally
synchronized counselling calendar. This aims to unify state and central
counselling rounds to avoid overlaps and manipulations.
