NEET UG Result 2024: Grace Marks Cancelled for 1,563 Candidates, Re-Exam Scheduled for June 23

The Supreme Court has allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct a re-test on June 23 for 1,563 candidates whose grace marks were cancelled. These candidates can opt to appear for the re-exam, and their original scorecards will be voided if they do. The Supreme Court made this decision on Thursday after accepting the Centre's recommendation in response to petitions challenging the awarding of grace marks during the NEET-UG 2024 exam on May 5.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard from the Centre and NTA's counsel, who confirmed that students given grace marks will have the option to retake the exam. The court also confirmed that the counselling process for admissions will proceed without delay.

For candidates who choose not to appear for the re-test, their original scorecards, excluding the grace marks, will be considered valid. The NTA assured the court that re-test results will be announced by June 30 to allow the counselling process to begin on July 6.

The court also addressed allegations of malpractices, including question paper leaks, associated with the NEET-UG 2024 exam, which was conducted across 4,750 centres and taken by approximately 24 lakh candidates. Despite the expected result announcement on June 14, the results were released early on June 4 due to the expedited evaluation process.

The issue of grace marks and alleged irregularities sparked protests, with students demanding a re-exam. Notably, 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, an unprecedented outcome in the NTA's history, leading to further scrutiny and suspicions of misconduct, especially as six top scorers were from a single centre in Faridabad, Haryana.

The NTA conducts the NEET-UG examination for admissions to various medical and allied courses in government and private institutions across India.
