Supreme Court to Hear NEET PG 2024 Exam Pattern Plea on Oct 4

Supreme Court will hear a plea challenging NEET PG 2024 exam pattern changes on October 4, focusing on answer key disclosure and score standardisation.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a crucial plea regarding NEET PG 2024 on October 4, 2024. The plea, filed by NEET PG aspirant Ishika Jain and others, challenges the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) over last-minute changes to the exam pattern, seeking transparency in the selection process. The petition demands the release of NEET PG answer keys, question papers, and the standardisation of marks after the exam was divided into two shifts for the first time.

Senior Advocate Vibha Datta Makhija and Advocate Tanvi Dubey, representing the petitioners, highlighted that the changes were made just days before the exam without any clear regulatory framework. They argued that the NBEMS relied solely on a single information bulletin, which could be modified at any time, creating confusion among students.

The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, questioned the abrupt alterations, calling them "unusual" and expressing concern over the impact on students' mental well-being. The court criticized the lack of formal regulations and the reliance on an easily changeable brochure.

The case, originally listed on September 27, 2024, was rescheduled for October 4, 2024. This hearing is expected to address the concerns raised by students regarding the two-shift NEET PG exam format and the normalization process used to calculate rankings.

NEET PG is a national-level entrance exam for postgraduate medical and dental programs like MD, MS, and MDS. This year, the exam results, declared on August 23, 2024, raised concerns due to unexpectedly low rankings for many students, adding to the growing demand for transparency and fairness in the evaluation process.
