The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2024 counselling for the special category has commenced today, as announced on the official website tneaonline.org.

This year, the counselling session is set to continue until September 11, specifically targeting state government school students who are eligible for admission under the 7.5 per cent special reservation category.

The online counselling process was inaugurated by the State Higher Education Minister, K. Ponmudy, at the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) in Guindy. During the launch, Minister Ponmudy revealed that a total of 664 applications have been received for the special category, which includes physically challenged individuals, ex-servicemen, and sportspersons. However, only 111 seats are available under this category. Minister Ponmudy assured that applicants who do not secure a seat in this category can still apply for counselling in the general and other categories.

The counselling process for TNEA 2024 is structured in multiple online rounds. These rounds include choice filling, where candidates list their preferred colleges and courses; allotment, where seats are assigned based on rank and preferences; confirmation of allotment, where candidates accept or decline the offered seat; and finally, reporting to the allotted colleges for fee payment. Candidates will participate in these rounds according to their ranks.

For the initial phase of counselling, priority will be given to state government school students who are eligible under the 7.5 per cent quota. This initiative is part of the government's effort to ensure equitable access to higher education for students from government schools. The online format of the counselling is designed to streamline the process, making it more accessible and efficient for all applicants.

Minister Ponmudy's announcement underscores the importance of this special category counselling in providing opportunities for underrepresented groups. By facilitating the admission process through a well-structured online platform, TNEA aims to ensure a fair and transparent allocation of seats. Applicants are encouraged to participate actively in the counselling rounds to secure their admissions in the engineering courses of their choice.
