Enhances Rewards for SC/ST Students in IITs, IIMs & NITs
Karnataka
increases incentives for SC/ST students in IITs, IIMs, IISc & NITs. MBBS
students with high scores get up to ₹25 lakh to promote educational equity.
In a significant move to support SC and ST students pursuing higher
education in top institutes, Karnataka's Social Welfare Minister H. C.
Mahadevappa announced an increase in incentive funds for eligible candidates.
Under this updated scheme, SC/ST
students enrolled in IITs, IIMs,
IISc, and NITs will now receive a scholarship boost from the previous ₹1
lakh to a substantial ₹2 lakh, aimed at enhancing their educational journey and
academic achievements.
A bonus has been introduced for MBBS students under the scheduled castes category. A one-time
payment of twenty-five lakhs would be given to those who score more than 60%
during their first year MBBS
examinations which is expected to greatly help in easing off some financial
burdens while at the same time stimulating bright student’s efforts towards
academic excellence.
It was further stated that if there are any special
cases: wherein certain Scheduled Caste candidates secure more than 95% marks at
PUC examination but fail to get an admitted seat through Government quota then
they shall be eligible for Rs. 25 lakhs under this head from Social Welfare
Department of Karnataka Government only.
The minister described this move as one that will make it possible for both SC/ST students to perform better academically and help strengthen the nation as a whole.
